• Trees  improve the soil. Trees are nutrient pumps, pumping nutrients from deep in the soil profile and depositing them as their leaves fall.

  Trees can create a “living fence” when planted close together to keep free-range animals from invading a garden or field where crops are planted.

  Trees can feed animals, especially in the extended dry season when there is little food to be found in the surrounding native environment.
